Nahum 1:2
2 God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.
I have heard many say, “my God wouldn’t do anything or let anything bad happen to people because he is a loving God.” You are right he is a loving God, but he is also a jealous and vengeful. You see God wants to give us his love. He wants to bless us abundantly. However, he will also remove his protection from us when we go astray to wake us up, or he will punish us himself. Before you say, no God can’t do that. Remember we can’t even imagine what he truly can do. His power is without limit. God is our father and just like an earthly father who disciplines his child to get them in line God can and will do the same to us. There is another thought to this verse. We belong to God. We are his. Anyone who comes against us for our beliefs are coming against God. They are his enemies and that is a position I choose not to be in.
