Scripture Over Tradition

Mark 7:6-9

6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition

This is not a popular thing to talk about. To be honest it actually upsets allot of people, but as I have said before God did not call me preach so I can tell people the wrong things they are doing is right. Jesus laid it out in these verses and I have actually heard people go against his words and say, “it doesn’t matter what you read, this is how my grandparents where raised and how I was raised and that’s how I believe.” Now if what you were taught being raised is backed by scripture, then that is great, but if it isn’t then you are wrong. The thing is it doesn’t matter if your family has followed this tradition for 200 years, if it is against the Bible, then you may want to stop that tradition. We will put so much thought on tradition that we began to forget scripture. Scripture is our road map and tells us exactly how to follow Christ. If we begin to leave it out just because we were raised that way then what use is it. Stop confusing tradition with the truth and words of Christ. I urge each and every one of you to study. If you are told something set down and read it yourself. Search the word and ask God for guidance and always choose scripture over tradition.
