Matthew 23:25-26
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also
Today I was cleaning the outside of my house. I was getting everything cleaned up and put away. When I was done I looked at the house as if I had just built it. If anyone saw it they would think of how clean the inside much be, especially if they saw how hard I was working on the outside. The thing is, I have two kids. Keeping the inside as clean as the outside is a nonstop task, but it has to be done. That is what Christ is pointing out. Before you worry about the outer appearance, first clean your soul. Make sure everything on the inside is clean. Then you can worry about your outer appearance. The truth is though if the inside is clean it will begin to show on the outside. Once you focus more on the inside the outside will stay clean as well. So stop worrying what people think of your outer appearance and focus on what matters most, the inside.
