When You Know That You Know

Acts 19:13-16

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the LORD Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

When the spirit heard them speak he did not know them. They thought just by speaking his name that it would work. It did not go as they had planned. The thing is, so many know his name but do not know him. They know who he is but have no relationship with him. It’s like saying you know a famous actor because you saw them on a movie. You know there name but they do not know you. In order to have the authority that comes with being a Christian, you first have to make sure that Jesus knows you. You have to have that relationship with him. Don’t be one of those people who think because they set in a church twice a week they have a relationship with him. It is so much more than that. It is waking up and praying, Studying his word, turning to him when trials hit, and just setting down and thanking him. When we have that relationship with him, that is when we have the authority these men thought they had. It is more than just kowing his name, it is truly knowing him.
