Matthew 22:36-40
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
If you love God with all of your being, you will want to walk the path he leads you down. Every commandment that he has given man will fall into place. You will do everything in your power to keep his word dear to your heart. You will not want the things of this world and you will keep from sin. If you love your neighbor as you love yourself, you will not covet their possessions not try to cause problems with them. Jesus was not saying that these are the only two commandments that you must follow. Jesus was saying that if you can do these two things, everything else will follow in line. He took the law and made it so simple that anyone could understand it. When you think about it, have you ever wanted to hurt someone you truly love? The answer is no. You want to make them happy with your actions. That first great commandment will make everything that God has laid out for us to fall in line. The second will only make it easier to follow the first, because it keeps you from jealousy and coveting.
