10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
God was going to destroy the great city. He sent Jonah to tell them the destruction was coming. However, when they heard the news, they repented so God decided to let them live. Pretty cut and dry and many preachers teach of obeying God because of Jonah in the fishes belly, but there is another lesson in this. It is the fact that many think they are to far gone to repent. Even some Christians will say some sinners are past the point if redemption. It is not to late until God’s wrath is poured out or until they take that last breath. Nineveh was dine for, but once God saw them turn and repent he changed his mind. It is never to late to repent. God can pull back his wrath, but first repentance has to happen.
