Be Selfless

Ruth 1:16

16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

Ruth was not an Israelite. She was not some great profit. She was a widow who had lost her husband and father-in-law. Her mother-in-law decided to go back to Israel and told Ruth to return to her people. Ruth refused. She instead decided to follow Noami back to her people in Judah. She also decided she would follow the God of Israel. She had no intention of anything else. She done exactly what God had planned. Seems like a silly thing, but it paved the way for a great King. David was a descendant of Ruth. God had a plan for a woman who only cared about taking care of her deceased husband’s mother. She put someone else above herself. She was selfless. That is how we have to become. So many of us, and yes I am guilty at times, will worry about ourselves. You can’t go help a friend nor a family member because it is an inconvenience. Ruth was not even asked and still was willing to put her needs behind Naomi’s. That is what Christ is teaching us. Be selfless.
